why is amoxicillin not given in EBV
can cause maculopapular rash
classic tonsillar pus in EBV
sheet rather than spots
indications for tonsillectomy
- 7 episodes in last year / 5 per year in 2 years / 3 per year in 3 years
- 2 peritonsillar abscesses
- suspected malignancy (asymmetrical)
- sleep disordered breathing (snoring)
post tonsillectomy bleeding rx
first 24 hr (usually within 6-8 hr) - take back to theatre
after 24 hr (usually 5-10 days later) - IV abx (usually caused by infection)
tonsillar SCC associated with
HPV
differencebwteen cfricothyroidtomty and tracheostomy
circothyroidotomy - emergency if can’t intubate. tracheostomy takes longer as more layers and chunky vessels in the way
