Flight of ideas
Ideas follow each other rapidly with no general direction of thinking
Inhibition/slowing
Slowed train of thought with reduced number of ideas
Circumstantially
Thinking proceeds slowly with many unnecessary and trivial details, but point is finally reached
Perseveration
Persistence of mental operations beyond relevance
Thought blocking
Sudden arrest of train of thought, leaving a blank
Desultory thinking
Grammar and syntax intact, associated with loosening of associations and sudden ideas
Sudden ideas
Sudden ideas force their way in from time to time
Transitory thinking
Grammar and syntax disturbed, associated with derailements, fusion, substitutions and omissions
Derailment
Total break in chain of association between meaning of thought
Fusion
2 + unrelated concepts are brought together to form one compound idea
Subsitutions
Where one thought fills the gap for another appropriate thought
Omissions
Where a thought or part of a thought is senselessly omitted
Obsessions
Unwanted persistent thought that dominates persons thinking
Compulsions
Acted-upon obsessions (obsessional motor acts)
Thought alienation
Thoughts are under the control of an outside agent
Thought insertion
Thoughts inserted by an outside agent
Thought deprivation/withdrawal
Thoughts removed by an outside agent
Thought broadcasting
Thoughts broadcasted to the world
Preoccupations
A subject or matter that engrosses the patient
Overvalued ideas
Acceptable, comprehensible idea pursued beyond the bounds of reason
Delusions
A fixed false belief
Primary delusion
Arising in connection with some other psychological event
Secondary delusion
Arising from some other morbid experience
Persecution delusion
Others persecuting them ie. The individual thinks that harm is occurring, or is going to occur.
The individual thinks that the perceived persecutor has the intention to cause harm
Jealous delusion
Suspicious, jealous of spouse
Love delusion
Convinced that someone is in love with them
Grandiose delusion
Believe that they are grander(of higher standing) than they are
Ill health delusion
Believe that they have a certain illness
Guilt delusion
Belief that they are bad/evil
Nihilism delusion
Belief that they are dead/do not exist (common in depressed patients)
Poverty delusion
Convinced that they are impoverished
Reference delusion
Believe everything spoken/done is in reference to themselves (fate)
