collect from blood from head, neck, UL and thorax (except heart)
what forms the superior vena cava?
Formed by left and right brachiocephalic veins
Azygos system
Collect venous blood from chest wall
F: inferior vena cava
collect venous blood from abdominal viscera, lower limb and pelvis (except GI tract, pancreas and spleen)
what forms the inferior vena cava?
Formed by left and right common iliac vein
what forms the common iliac veins?
1) internal iliac vein
2) external iliac vein
F: hepatic portal system
collects most venous blood from digestive system (below the diaphragm, does not collect from esophagus) and collects the nutrients
components of portal system
1) splenic vein
2) inferior mesenteric vein
3) superior mesenteric vein
F: splenic vein
drain venous blood of spleen, stomach and pancreas
F: inferior mesenteric vein
drain distal half of large intestine
F: superior mesenteric vein
drain small intestine and proximal half of large intestine

Directly into inferior vena cava
Where do veins from anal canal drain into?
Directly into inferior vena cava
Where does venous blood drain into the heart?
Right atrium
