Thorax ,abdommen, Pelvis Flashcards
Internal thoracic vessels
Branch off from each subclavian artery inferiorly
Common carotid (L and R)
Connect external and internal carotids inferiorly
Brachiocephalic trunk
Connects common carotid and subclavian arteries
Brachiocephalic vein
Drains from internal jugular vein, drains into subclavian vein
Common iliac vein
Drains the pelvis and it’s contents
Azygos vein
Enters thorax through aortic opening
Drains into superior vena cava
Hemiazgos vein
Branch off from azyos vein and ascends on vertebral bodies
Brachiocephalic vein
Left and right join to form SVC
Internal thoracic artery
Originates from proximal part of subclavian artery
Descends along inner wall of anterior rib cage
Lateral thoracic artery
Originates from second segment of the axillary artery
Runs along lateral border of pectoralis minor
Common iliac artery
Aortic bifurcation gives rise to two common iliac arteries
External iliac artery
Curves round pelvic brim
Drains into femoral artery
Hepatic portal vein
Union of superior mesentric and spinal veins
Blood from oesophagus, stomach, intestines, pancreas enters liver
Superior mesentric artery
Anterior branch of abdominal aorta at level of first lumbar vertebrae, just below Coeliac trunk
Inferior mesentric artery
Anterior aspect of aorta 3/4cm above bifurcation
Runs downwards to reach pelvic brim, crossing the common iliac vessels
