Thoracic Limb Innervation Flashcards
What does the musculocutaneous nerve innervate?
What is the dysfunction of this nerve
Innervates: corocobrachialis, biceps brachii, and brachialis m.
The cutaneous part- medial cutaneous antebrachii
Dysfunction: animal cannot offer paw, no gait abnormality
What does the axillary nerve innervate?
Is there a dysfunction ?
Teres major and minor m. , deltoideus, and subscapularis muscles
Radial nerve innervate ?
Extensors of elbow, carpus, digits (triceps muscles)
The deep branch is motor - carpal extensors
Superficial branch- sensory-gives lateral and medial cutaneous antebrachial that innervates the skin over the cranial and lateral surface of forearm
If injury occurs to proximal division of the radial nerve?
Distal end ?
Animal would not be able to bear weight because triceps m is the main weight bearing muscle , knuckling over, loss of sensation on cranio-lateral aspect of limb distal to elbow
Paralysis of carpal and extensors , flicking of paw to compensate
Patients with parasthesia (burning, itching, tingling) from radial nerve injuries often:
Chew on paw, especially over dorsal aspect
Ulnar nerve innervates
Motor and cutaneous Innervation
Motor Innervation to carpal and digital flexors
Cutaneous Innervation
Caudal cutaneous antebrachii , dorsal branch, palmar branch
The median nerve innervates
Pronator quadratus and pronator teres
Flexor carpi radialis
SDF/DDF
The suprascapular nerve innervates what muscle and what happens if injury occurs
Supraspinatus and infraspinatus m.
Leads to muscle atrophy, shoulder slip
