Thoracic and Lumbar Vertebrae Flashcards
All Thoracic Vertebrae:
costal facet and/or demifacet
costal facet of the transverse process
on lateral body/centrumof all thoracic vertebrae; for articulation of rib heads
on all thoracic vertebrae except T11 and T12 (11th and 12th ribs are floatingribs); for articulation of rib tubercles
T1 Vertebra
- body: one complete costal facet and one inferior demifacet
- transverse process: costal facet
T2–T8 Vertebrae
body: two demifacets (one superior and one inferior)
- transverse process: costal facet
T9 Vertebra
- body: one superior demifacet only
- transverse process: costal facet
T10 Vertebra
- body: one complete costal facet
- transverse process: costal facet
T11 Vertebra
-body: one complete costal facet-transverse process: NO costal facet-inferior articular facet: flat and oriented anteriorly (typical ofthoracicvertebrae)
T12 Vertebra
- body: one complete costal facet
- transverse process: NO costal facet
All Lumbar Vertebrae:
mammillary process
accessory process
small tubercle posterior to the superior articular facet(on the most superoposterioraspect of the superior articular process/zygapophysis)
small tubercle on the medial aspect (posteroinferior)of transverse process
L1 and L2 Vertebrae
from posterior, the four articular processes/zygopophysesform a vertical rectangle
L3 and L4 Vertebrae
from posterior, the four articular processes/zygapophysesform a square
L5 Vertebra
- from posterior, the four articular processes/zygapophysesform a horizontalrectangle
- the transverse processes unitedirectly with the lateral vertebral body(rather than with the vertebral arch)
