thoracic, abdominal walls and pleura/lungs Flashcards
what are the three branches off the aortic arch
left subclavian
left common carotid
brachiocephalic trunk
what does the posterior intercostals (3-11) branch off of?
the internal thoracic artery
what are the 3 divisions of the internal thoracic?
anterior intercostals
musculophrenic
superior epigastric
intervertebral joint
between bodies- symphysis
between articular processes- synovial plane
costovertebral joint
synovial plane
costotransverse joint
synovial plane
sternoclavicular joint
saddle joint (acts as ball & socket)
sternocostal jointn
rib 1 to sternum - synchondrosis
ribs 2 to 7 - synovial plane
costochondral joint
synchondrosis
interchondral joint
synovial plane
manubriosternal joint (sternal angle)
symphysis
xiphisternal joint
synchondrosis
what does the internal thoracic artery supply
anterior thoracic wall
breasts
what does the musculophrenic supply
mainly diaphragm
what do the intercostal nerves innervate?
skin, parietal pleura, intercostal muscles
what are the major impressions on the right lung?
1st rib
subclavian, brachiocephalic, superior vena cava
trachea
esophagus
what are the major impressions on the left lung
cardiac impression arch of aorta brachiocephalic vein subclavian artery subclavian vein 1st rib
what are the holes in the diaphragm?
aortic hiatus
esophageal opening
caval opening
function of pleural fluid
- creates negative pressure between layers of visceral and parietal pleura and helps keep the lungs expanded.
- we want to bring air from outside (HIGH PRESSURE) into our lungs (LOW PRESSURE). This keeps lungs inflated.
