How did the election of 1800 play out?
The democratic-republicans won the election and Jefferson and Burr tied, each receiving 73 votes. The election was settled by the House of Representatives after 35 votes. Hamilton swings the election to Jefferson and angers Burr.
What happened as a result of the Election of 1800?
The 12th ammendment was made. It made it that the president and vice president would be elected on seperate ballots.
When was Jefferson’s innaguration?
March 4, 1801
What did Jefferson say in his innagural adress?
He called for unity: “We are all Republicans, we are all Federalists”. Jefferson did not propose to change the structure of the government.
What did Jefferson first do after becoming president?
He undid the Sedition Act, Payed debt (halved national debt and cut all internal taxes), Cut federal spending, Cut military spending, shrank the navy, Battled John Marshall, the head of the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court (over politics), and Appointed Albert Gallatin as Secretary of Treasury.
What was Marbury vs Madison?
On the last day before Adam’s presidency ended, he sent out commissions to try to make more judges Federalists. John Marshall did not deliver the signed commission to William Marbury.
When Jefferson became president, Marbury sued Madison. Marshall was the judge of the case. He did not allow Marbury to become a judge, and issued judicial review.
