Things to Remember for Exam Flashcards
What is the Saturation region of operation in a transistor?
It is when the circuit acts like an open circuit and so current will flow freely form the collector to the emitter. Vbe = 0.7 and Vce = 0.2
What is the cut off region of operation in a transistor?
It is when the transistor acts like an open circuit and so no current will flow from the collector to the emitter.
Vbe < 0.7
What is the active region of operation in a transistor?
The active region is when the current flowing between the collector and the emitter is proportional to the current through the base.
Vbe = 0.7 and Vce > 0.2
What is the reverse active region of the transistor?
It is the same as the active region but the current will flow from the emitter from the collector.
What is the resolution of a sensor?
It is the minimum change that can be detected in the quantity that is being measured.
What is the range of a sensor?
It specifies the max and min range of inputs for the sensor.
What is the span of a sensor?
It is the difference between the max and min inputs.
What is the accuracy of a sensor?
Event to which the value indicated by the sensor is wrong. It is a summation of all the possible error. Expressed as a % of the full range output.
What is the sensitivity of the sensor?
It is the relationship that indicates how much output there will be for how much input. It can also relate to how sensitive a sensor is to other inputs than the one that is being measured, like changes in the environment.
What is Hysteresis Error of a sensor?
Sensors can give different outputs for the same inputs depending on whether or not the input is continuously increasing or decreasing.
What is the Non Linear Error of a sensor?
We assume that most sensors have a linear relationship when this is generally not the case. Therefore the Non Linear Error is the difference between the value and the straight line. Quote this error as a % of the full range output.
What is the repeatability of a Sensor?
It is the ability to give the same output for repeated applications of the same input.
What is the stability of a sensor?
It is the ability to give the same output when used to measure the same input over an extended period of time.
What is the drift of a sensor?
The change in output that occur over time.
What is Zero Drift?
Zero drift is the change in output when there is zero input.
