Things That Affect Visual Perception. Flashcards
What kind of factors can affect visual perception?
Biological, Psychology and Social.
What psychological factors affect visual perception?
Context, emotional state, motivation, past experience and perceptual set.
What biological factors affect visual perception?
Genetics, individual physiology makeup & ageing.
What social factors affect visual perception?
Culture.
Individual Physiological Make-Up. - Visual
Some people are born with faulty eyes.
eg, short sighted people have an eyeball too long.
Ageing. - Visual
Ageing often develops problems with our eyes.
eg, cataracts may develop. (causes the lens to be cloudy)
Genetics. - Visual
Visual disorders can be passed on genetically.
eg, colour blindness.
Perceptual Set (expectancy) - Visual
Prior exposure to stimuli can affect our visual perception.
eg, you could like things from your first partner in your future partners.
Motivation & Emotional State. - Visual
Sometimes we perceived things based on our motivation.
eg, if hungry, you could perceive ‘FUEL AHEAD’ as ‘FOOD AHEAD’
Context. - Visual
Information that surrounds stimuli can affect perception.
eg, 6.5 is big to 4.5 yet small to 7.5
Culture - Visual
Culture can play a role in a visual perception.
eg, some depth cues may not develop due to people living places with that not existent depth cues.
