Things need to memorise Flashcards
What is a neutralise reaction?
Any reaction that has OH- and H+ ions combine
–> Forming H2O
Ionic equation
H+ + OH- –> H2O
Acid + Active Metal
H2 + Salt
Acid + Carbonate (CO3)
CO2 + H2O + Salt
Acid + Base (OH- or O)
H2O + Salt
What are bases?
Household products (Soap, detergents, oven cleaner, bathroom cleaner and toothpaste)
Name some bases
Ammonia (NH3)
Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH)
Sodium Carbonate (Na2CO3)
Calcium Oxide (CaO)
What are the properties of Bases?
- Protons acceptors
- May corrosive
- Taste bitter
What are Alkalis?
Soluble bases that produce OH-
E.g. NaOH, Ca(OH)2, KOH
What are the properties of Alkalis?
- Change the colour of acid-bas indicators
- Alkalis + Oxide (O2-) of non-metals –> Carbonate + H2O
E.g. 2LiOH +CO2 –> H2O + Li2CO3
What is acid?
Proton donator
When acid donates H+, what does it become?
Conjugated base
When base accepts H+, what does it become?
Conjugated acid
What is a Monoprotic acid?
Acid molecule donate 1 H+
What is a Diprotic acid?
Acid molecule donate 2 H+
