Thermodynamics Flashcards
When sitting in a chair, what do you do to get up out of the chair and why?
You lean forward or move your feet back to adjust your center of mass.
What are the Laws of Thermodynamics?
0th Order: temperature = the fundamental property of matter
1st Order: conservation of energy = energy is neither gained or lost but transferred
2nd Order: in any spontaneous process, there is always an increase in entropy of the universe
What are the 3 ways heat can be transferred?
Convection
Conduction
Radiation
The amount of heat needed to heat or freeze a substance
Heat of fusion
The amount of heat needed to vaporize or condense a substance
Heat of vaporization
Conditions where the temperature of a system doesn’t change
Isothermal
Condition where pressure doesn’t change
Isobaric
Condition where volume doesn’t change
Isochoric
Condition where the system is perfectly insulated so that no heat can enter or escape
Adiabatic
