Thermodynamics (2) Flashcards
What does the first order of law of Thermodynamic state ?
It states that energy is conserved during phisicochemical change.
e.g. chemical energy of a battery converted into electrical energy
what factor decrease capacity to do work always ?
temperature
What is a spontaneous change ?
A chnage that chnages naturallt
How does spontanous change affect capacity of work ?
- It reduces cpacity of work, which in configured into useful work
What is heat ?
- vigorous and random vibration, rotation and movement of molecules (centre of mass doesn’t move)
- heat is chaotic form of energy
What is the molecular level of solids, liquids and gasses ?
- solids are more ordered than liquids
- liquids are more ordered than gases
What are sponatanous exothermic reactions ?
- spontanous exothermic reaction warm the surrounding and heat is a disordered form of energy
What are spontaneous endothermic reactions ?
Spontaneous endothermic reactions change the system into a more distorted forms of matter
what is the trend between entropies(S) and molecular disorder ?
the higher the S the hier the molecular disorder
what is work ?
an ordered form of energy
What does the first law tell us ?
Tells us whether a process is possible
What does the second law of thermodynamics tell us ?
It states that no process is permissible where heat is completley convert into work
chemical systems with a high capacityn to do work have a……..
high chemical potential
how much capacity to work is there when there is 0 chemical reaction ?
no capacity to work
reactions that are spontaneous are always………
reduce the chemical potential of the system
