Thermal Energy Flashcards
What is Thermal Energy?
Thermal Energy is the total kinetic (motion) energy of the tiny molecules that make up matter.
The faster the molecules move, the warmer the object is.
What is Heat?
Heat is the movement of energy from one object to another
What is Conduction?
When heat moves from one object to another it is known as Conduction.
What is Convection?
Convection is the transfer of heat through air or liquid.
What is Radiation?
The emission of heat through a blank space.
What is a Conductor?
The transfer of thermal energy through currents of gas or liquids.
What is an Insulator?
It blocks conduction
What is Thermal Equilibrium?
Thermal Equilibrium happens when heat flows from a warmer temp object to a colder temp object until both objects have the same temp.
What is the Law of Conservation of Energy?
Energy is either created or destroyed
