Thermal Energy Flashcards
What is a conductor?
A material that transfers heat energy quickly or easily.
What is an insulator?
Something that prevents or slows down heat energy transfer.
What is Thermal energy?
The total energy of all the moving particles of an
object. Faster moving particles means higher thermal energy.
What is heat?
Heat is the transfer of thermal energy from one object to another.
What is conduction
Conduction is the transfer of thermal energy when two objects of different temperatures touch.
What is radiation?
The transfer of thermal energy by invisible waves, through air or even empty space.
What is convection?
Heat transfer caused by the rising and falling of hotter and cooler liquids or gases.
What is Thermal Equilibrium?
When two objects in contact with each other
Law of Conservation of Energy
energy can neither be created nor destroyed - only converted from one form of energy to another.
