CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy)
Challenge someone’s thoughts to change their behaviour
-alter their negative views
4 phases of CBT
1- initial assessment
2. Goal setting
3.recognise irrational thinking

Phase 1
Initial assessment
- patient and therapist identify pp problems
-diary to keep where negative thoughts occur
Phase 2
Goal setting
targets that need to be achieved eg record thoughts and challenge them
Phase 3
Therapist helps client recognise their irrational thinking by using evidence eg messages from friends
Phase 4
Homework - keep diary of things they enjoy build up evidence against their negative thoughts.
Evaluation
Nhs - free - but implication for economy
✅Effective
✅- non intrusive nothing into the body all-natural and the participant is in control
No side effects
✅- getting to root of problem not just helping the symptoms
❌- only certain amount of sessions not usually enough
