A

The most inportant step of mindfullness is focusing on the here and now , which means clients must be taught to control their thoughts as they must focus on the present

A

Meditation is essential for Mindfulness as it removes the individual from their day-to-day interactions and makes it easier to focus on the here and now

They are told to focus on how their body feels and their emotions , they are told to accept thoughts and move on

A

Once learned , mindfulness can be practised throughout daily life , such as driving and showering. This allows us to focus on an individual task and gives us a break from stressful lives

Why is Mindfulness classed as a ‘postivr therapy’ (ev - ethics)

A

Mindfulness is ethical as client anxiety is completely avoided as it doesn’t use the past to explain behaviour, this lack of a deterministic stance is incredibly positive for the client

Mindfullness has been applied to a wide range, such as Psychoanalysis, and CBT - To MICBT - aims to change thought process as well as content

A

MCBT is used to help prevent patients who suffer from depression from relapse

Research - found it significantly reduces the risk of relapse for those who suffered with the grearest number of depressive episodes

Explain how Mindfulness has been applied to Stress reduction (MBSR) to help people (Ev point)

A

MBSR has been used in hospitals to help patients with chronic or terminal conditions to relieve stress

Evidence- rearsch found the 136 participants who took part in an 8-week programme reported decreased levels of anxiety and depression, after only 20 mins a day

Explain the evaluation point of group vs individual mindfullness

A

Research suggests it’s more helpful in a group setting - 170 ppts who were trying to lose weight were randomly assigned to practice mindfulness in a group or individually, group = lost more weight and lowered levels of cognitive avoidance (e.g avoiding social activities)
