EIBI
Early intensive behavioural intervetion
- early = from under 2 yrs or 5 yrs
- intensive = structure up between 20-50 hours a week one to one homeschooling for years
ABA = applied behavioural analysis replaces tantrums with positive behaviour e.g. eye contact, spontaneous communication.
Personnel
Sesssions delivered with a trained behavioural therapist programmes supervised by a qualified professional
Parents and other family members become closely involved with day to day application of EIBI
Target behaviours
Communication, lanaguage development, social communication and self care
Generalisation
Creates strategises that child can apply independently and can use learned skills in new environments outside the home and classroom.
Stages = 4
1 - establish cooperation and reduce tantrums
- simple requests and reinforcements
2 - foundational skills
- several skills are developed from simple to more complex like sorting out 2D and 3D shapes
- therapist shows behaviours including gross behaviours ills folding arms and fine movements such as making peace sign
- child imitates facial expressions and develops play skills
Stage 3 - early communicative langauage
- receptive language is reinforced, beginning with ability to follow instruction and eventually identify objects, people and behaviours
Stage 4 - grammatical language and early socialisation
- focus switches to expressive language, reinforcing behaviours that turn thoughts into grammatically corrrcet sentences (verbal imitation, utterances, writing)
- self care skills are developed e.g. eating wiht a spoon and getting dressed
