Therapeutic Proteins Flashcards
FILGRASTIM
G-CSF
regulates the production of neutrophils within the bone marrow and affects neutrophil progenitor proliferation, differentiation and functional activation
also mobilizes hematopoietic stem cells, increasing their concentration in peripheral blood
led to the use of peripheral blood stem cells (PBSCs) rather than bone marrow stem cells for transplantation
cancer chemotherapy-induced neutropenia (esp. FILGRASTIM)
esp. during autologous stem cell transplantation following high-dose chemotherapy
objective is to prevent systemic infection (neutrophils are the 1st line of defence against infection)
allergic reactions
splenic rupture
INTERLEUKIN 11
increase platelet production
atrial fibrillation
especially in the elderly or children
hypokalemia
doesn’t cause fever
SAGRAMOSTIM
stimulates myelopoiesis generally, and neutrophils and monocytes specifically
capillary leak syndrome (peripheral edema, pleural or pericardial effusions) – some patients are extremely sensitive
THROMBOPOIETIN
increase platelet production
