Therapeutic Positioning Flashcards
1
Q
What are the aims of positioning
A
Optimise respiratory function
- maximise diaphragm movement
- drain sputum
- reduce WOB and SOB
2
Q
Which lung should be down to help VQ matching
A
Good lung down as gravity will improve perfusion and air will go there from decreased resistance
3
Q
Where do you get the best perfusion
A
In line with gravity
4
Q
Where is the best ventilation (think slinky)
A
In the dependant region of the lung as the alveoli are more compliant and have better gas exchange
