16
Q

What are Revulsive effects?

A

A prolonged application heat followed by a brief application of cold.

This Technique intensifies the sensation of cold and causes blood flow to move away quickly from the area being treated.

Q

What is Collateral Circulation?

A

Uses Deviation & retrostasis in a restricted area.
Modifications to blood flow in a superficial artery will cause a change in deeper arteries from the same circulatory trunk.

18
Q

What is Arterial Trunk Reflex?

A

Whatever affects a circulatory trunk will also have the same effect on the vessels that trunk supplies.

19
Q

What is Spinal Cord Reflex?

A

Each vital centre has a corresponding area of skin which is Reflexively connected to it.

20
Q

What are the Ranges of temperatures used in hydro and what are not used?

A

Very cold, cold, cool, tepid, neutral, warm, hot, very hot, painfully hot, dangerously hot.

32
Q

What are the effects of Heat when using Hydrotherapy?

A

At first the Heat is Excitatory to the Nervous system.
After prolonged use it becomes a Depressant / Sedentary.

Softens the connective tissue.
Increases ROM, Decreases joint stiffness.
Decrease pain and mm Spasm.

Causes the removal of inflammatory products and edema.
Increases blood flow.

33
Q

What are the local effects

A

34
Q

What are the Hydrotherapy Techniques Hot/Cold?

A

Cold compress, Ice Pack, Ice Massage, Hot compress, Hot foot bath, Contrast foot bath, Paraffin, Steam inhalations, Cold mitten friction.

35
Q

What is Cold compress used for?

A

It helps relieve Edema, Heat and Redness.

36
Q

What are ice packs used for during Hydrotherapy?

A

You’d use Ice packs with Acute injuries as there will be an increase in swelling?

37
Q

What ice Massage used for when treating people with Hydrotherapy?

A

Acute Trigger points that may be too tender to treat with Trigger point release.
Spasms, Pain and Swelling.

38
Q

What is Hot compress used for when treating people with Hydrotherapy?

A

A Hot Compress pack is taken from the Hydrocullator.

Used for Mm spasms, Decreased ROM, joint pain and or Soreness.

39
Q

What are Hot foot baths used for when treating people with Hydrotherapy?

A

This would be used for when clients present with a congestive headache.

40
Q

What are contrast foot baths used for?

A

Local infections, edema, non-acute and Chronic traumatic injuries.

20 secs in hot - 10 in cold for OP purposes.

41
Q

What is Paraffin used for when treating people with Hydrotherapy?

A

You would use this on clients that present with condition such as Dyputren’s Contracture.

42
Q

What is Steam inhalation used on clients?

A

This is when Clients have congestion of the Respritory System, Cough, sore throat, laryngitis and heavy mucus build up.

43
Q

What is cold mitten friction used fo when treating people with Hydrotherapy?

A

Poor Circulation, Post cast removal & Anemia.

You’d do this for 2 mins max.
