What is Modernity?
Modernity refers to the industrial world that began to emerge in Western Europe in the late 18th century. This saw the rise of mass production, capitalism, individualism, urbanisation, urbanisation, and state bureaucracy.
What is a Modern Society?
A society guided by ordered, rational, scientific thinking.
Categorised by mass production, capitalism, individualism, urbanisation, and state bureaucracy.
The Enlightenment Project
Where society is seen as the answer, rather than traditional sources of knowledge such as religion.
What are Meta-narratives?
All encompassing theories that try to find certain answers to questions.
Examples of Modernist theories:
Structural theories - Marxism, and Functionalism.
Modernist theories claim monopoly of the truth (claim they are objectively right about society).
Modernist Aims:
Aim to investigate the world scientifically and explain why societies have evolved to be the way they are.
