theory 4 Flashcards
what are the three methods of heat transfer and through what matter do they transfer through
conduction - heat transfers through a solid
convection - heat transfers through a liquid
radiation - heat transfers through air/space
with both hot and cold which way does heat always transfers to
heat transfers from hot to cold
what is superheat
a degree over a substances boiling point, so with water boiling point of 100 and the temperature is 102 it has 2 degrees of super heat
what is sub-cooling
is a degree below its freezing point
what does the compressor do in the four part refrigeration cycle
pressurizes the gas and moves it around the system
what does the condenser do in the four part refrigeration cycle
cools the refrigerant with salt water changing gas into liquid
what does the evaporator do in the four part refrigeration cycle
removes heat from the space converting refrigerant liquid into gas
Explain the pressure/volume relationship.
as pressure increases, volume decreases
explain latent heat
where the temperature stays the same but the state changes
explain sensible heat
where the temperatures changes but the state stays the same
what does the thermal expansion valve do in the four part refrigeration cycle
slows the flow of refrigerant, reducing temperature to very cold
shows green if there isnt any moisture and yellow if there is
What is the purpose of the Moisture indicating sight glass and what will it show?
visible indication of the refrigerant flow and show the presence of any moisture in the liquid refrigerant.
Explain the Montreal Protocol agreement.
these are the ozone depletion gases like, CFC’s, HCFC’s, and halons
Explain the Kyoto Summit agreement.
this involves global warming and green house gases such as Co2, PFC’s, and HFC’s
State methods of Refrigeration Leak Detection.
oil slicks infra red leak detection spectrolyne dye and UV lamp snoop (soapy water) halogen leak detector
