The Reason For 24 Tul
The reason for 24 tul in Taekwondo is because the founder, General Choi Hong Hi, compared the life of a man with a day in the life of the Earth. The 24 tul represents 24 hours in the day.
The Purpose Of A Tul
A Tul is a combination of attack and defence movements in a fixed and logical sequence that could be used to defend against one or more imaginary opponents.
A Tul is practised to improve Taekwondo techniques, to develop speed and power, improve flexibility, master body shifting, develop muscles, balance, and breath control.
The Purpose Of 3 Step Sparring
3 step sparring is designed for beginners to learn and apply basic attack and defence techniques and to develop focus, distance, and timing. All attacks in 3 step are mid-section punches.
The Purpose Of 2 Step Sparring
2 step sparring is designed for intermediate students to learn more complex attacks and defences.
The Purpose Of 1 Step Sparring
1 step is the most complex form of step sparring involving movements that are not pre-set, unlike the 2 and 3 step sparring. Techniques performed on one side must be mirrored on the other.
The Purpose Of Semi Free Sparring
Semi free sparring introduces the student to free sparring type movements whilst maintaining a step sparring format. Movements should be instinctive and performed with technique and precision in order to develop more advanced attack and defence techniques.
The Purpose Of Free Sparring
Free sparring allows students to use techniques freely in a controlled combat situation.

Meaning of Chon Ji
Chon Ji means ‘Heaven and Earth’. It is interpreted as the creation of the world, and therefore, it is the initial tul played by the beginner. It consists of two similar parts, one to represent heaven and the other to represent earth.
