Functionalist. They created the idea of Sifting and Sorting, saying that students are sorted into subjects/sets based purely on their ability

The Founder of the New Right and creator of Underclass Theory
What did Chubb and Moe find in 1990, and what was their recommendation?
New Right. They found that children from low income families who go to private school perform 5% better than those who go to state school. They concluded that this is because private schools have to answer to their consumers (parents), so they suggested bringing in the voucher system and therefore marketisation

Postmodernist. Argues that only in a Postmodernist society can schools break free from the ‘oppressive uniformity’/one size fits all education system. Instead, they can customise themselves to meet the needs of their communities, such as the increasing number of faith schools
