Functions of Qi
Promoting: Qi promotes the normal growth and development of the human body, as well as the various activities of the internal organs, body tissues and fluids.
Warming: A normal and consistent body temperature is maintained via the warming functions of Qi.
Defending: Qi defends the body against invading pathogenic factors, thereby providing resistance to external forces that may result in disease.
Astringing: Qi adjusts the appropriate secretion and excretion of various body fluids including sweat, saliva, urine, and semen. Qi prevents hemorrhage by maintaining the flow of blood in the vessels, and also prevents prolapse of the internal organs by providing the energy to hold them in place.
Transforming (QI Hua): Qi transforms the food we eat into energy, body fluids and Blood. Overall metabolism is a function of Qi.
