Genetic Mutation Theory
Human beings are mortal, it is natural and acceptable for them to withdraw from society as they grow old. There is reduction in social contact
Disengagement Theory
One must constantly struggle to remain functional and take on new activities to replace new ones. Elderly people stay the happiest when they are active and maintain social interactions
Activity Theory
How and individual acts like or looks like is determinant of the aging process
Activity Theory
There is continuous flow of phases in the life cycle and does not limit itself to change. Persons will remain the same unless there are factors that stimulate change
Continuity Theory
Aging is caused by a change in the immune system
Immunologic/Autoimmune Theory
Old-age related immune system dysfunction
Inflamm-aging
Simple deterioration. The effects of aging is due to progressive damage to cells/body systems over time.
Wear & Tear Theory
Body has a fixed rate potential for living
Rate of Living Theory
Chemical wastes collect in the body and produce deterioration by interfering with cellular function
Waste Theory
Collagen stiffens with age. The resultant stiffness adversely affects function.
Collagen Theory
Events occuring in the hypothalamus and pituitary are responsible for changes in hormone production and response which leads to an organism’s decline.
Endocrine Theory
Changes in the replication of DNA/RNA are the causes of aging. The changes in cells result in change in organization or function associated with aging.
Genetic Mutation Theory
