Assessment means:
a systemic collection of data to identify the strengths and limitations of a person’s physical, cognitive, social, behavioral, emotional, spiritual, and leisure capabilities; and interpreting and analyzing collected data to identify and determine a course of action for recreational therapy services for a patient (TRS/MTRS ONLY, I don’t do that last part as a TRT)
Assessment includes:
- A record review
- The implementation of standardized and non-standardized instruments, tests, and measurements
- The skilled observation and interview of a person

Skilled Observation
Carefully completed in an organized manner and are as free as possible from personal bias.
Naturalistic Observation
No attempt to manipulate or change the natural environment, general appearance, interpersonal interactions, motor activity, body language, etc.
