What is consensus theory?
Society is based on agreement on shared norms and values, e.g. functionalism
Shared culture = harmony society plus social order
What is the conflict theories?
Societies based on conflict and imbalance of power between different groups
E.g. Marxism and feminism
Marxism is conflict between working and ruling classes
Feminism is conflict between men and women
What are structural theories?
We society is a structure which controls determines individuals behaviours
Functionalism feminism and Marxism are all structural theories
Society controlls individuals
What is action theories?
Individuals create and shape society through their actions
Individual shapes society as they help to create norms and values and bring about change
