What is Hays Law?
It was a self imposed industry set of guidelines for all motion pictures that were set from 1934 to 1968. It prohibited profanity, suggested nudity, graphic or realistic violence, sexual persuasions or rape.
What is Todorov’s theory?
Todorov’s theory looks at the narrative structure and found that most films followed a chronological order at which there is an equilibrium, then a disruption and then recognition of the disruption and then a new equilibrium is established.
What is Spectatorship theory? Stuart Hall
This theory suggests that the film builds a unique relationships with every individual who watches it rather than previous conventions that viewers were considered as groups and not personal.

Film Noir is a style of filmmaking that symbolises pessimism, fatalism ands menace. It was first seen in 1940s America by a group of French Directors. Seen in American thrillers or detective films. Emphasises the cynical attitudes and motivation of people in the 1940s/50s which is know as the classic era of this time..
