-definicija neke verse i onda zaokružiti koja je (limerick) i napisati ko je popularizovao

A
  • Edward Lear- landscape painter, author of nonsense verse
  • 19th century
  • limericks writen 15 years before the nonsense
  • Lear also popularised limericks in his first book, A Book of Nonsense (1846).

  • he and Lewis Carroll both altered the meaning
  • it is difficult to define: it would be said that
    incongruity of characters situations, or words plus a predictable, stable element such as numbers,
    choruses, alliteration or, paradoxically, an instance on the correct use of words, equals nonsense.
  • Sound plays a great part in nonsense (not the meaning, but the sound of words); writing of nonsense sometimes invent words, just by liking the sounds they make.
    1. a combination of incongruous and stable elements;
    2. words floating somewhat free of their usual associations;
    3. an emphasis upon sounds;
    4. detachment(emotional and from the meaning)

Q
  • Da li je dete sophisticated ili unsophisticated reader? Zašto?
A

A child is considered to be an unsophisticated reader. This means that they are developing their
reading skills, vocabulary, understanding of complex themes and narrative structures. Thus,
children’s books need to be engaging, with simpler language, clear plots and themes.

30
Q
  • Veza između deteta i autora? Equal or not?
A

Not equal – authors have a deeper understanding of language, themes & storytelling techniques;
author has the overall control over the narrative (exception of modernism where children can
choose their own endings to the story etc.) + children are very impressionable during
development.
How it is viewed in different periods:
The children-as-readers is also defined as a redemptive kind of reader; a concern for the
preservation of the childhood in the face of Victorian realities. The sense in which the meanings
are beyond conscious understanding is particularly appropriate to the imagined child reader; the
desire to offer children open invitations is echoed in children’s literature of the period – much of
the enduring children’s fiction of this period can be defined in terms of a belief in the innate
ability of children to respond to such invitations. This trust is met with narrative strategies that
invite a dialogue „sharing“ of the storytelling process.
Much of the fiction produced between the wars (modernism) provided „the characteristic voice
of children’s literature as clear, uncomplicated and generally neutral …“ (Exception was Mary
Poppins, by Pamela Lyndon Travers amongst others).
The implied reader of the postmodern children’s literature is still defined in Romantic terms
(child – ideal reader). The child is in a powerful position as a reader.
