theorems AND definitions Flashcards
circle (qualities)
has 360 degrees
circumference= pi d
named by center point
arc
any part of a circle, all arcs add up to 360
radius
drawn from the center of the circle to any point in the outside, all radii are congruent
chord
any segment with endpoints on the circle
diameter
segment with endpoints on the circle that pass through the outside
it is the largest chord in the circle
d=2r
secant
line or line segment or ray that intersects a circle at two points
tangent
touches the circle once, at the line of tangency
congruent circles
have congruent radii
concentric circles
have the same center, are inside each other
minor arc
measures less than half the circle (less than 180)
major arc
measures more than half the circle (more than 180)
semicircle
measures exactly 180. half the circle
central angle
an angle with the vertex as the center of the circle, constructed by 2 radii, the measure of the angle is equal to the measure of the arc
Inscribed angle
angle with vertex on the circle. sides are 2 cords. the measure of the inscribed angle is half of the intercepted arc
congruent central angles…
intercept congruent arcs
congruent arcs…
are intercepted by congruent angles
congruent chords…
Intercept congruent arcs
perpendicular chords
a diameter to a chord bisects the chord and the arc, the perpendicular bisector of the chord passed through the center of the circle. the chord that is the diameter bisects the other chord
arcs between parallel chords are
congruent
and angle formed by 2 tangents is…
a-b/2 = angle
the measure of the exterior angle and intercepted minor arc are supplementary. (b+angle=180)
the intercepted arcs are major and minor arcs with the same endpoints
an angle formed by 2 secants is…
a-b/2=angle
and angle formed by a tangent and a secant are…
a-b/2=angle
an angle formed by a tangent and a chord are
half the measurement of the intercepted arc (just like an inscribed angle)
when you have a secant and a chord
there is NO FORMULA
look for supplementary angles and triangles
and angle formed by 2 chords is (BOWTIE THEOREM)
a+b/2= angle notice you are adding NOT SUBTRACTING a= larger intercepted arc b= smaller intercepted arc look at the packet
a radius and a tangent…
a radius drawn to the point of tangency is perpendicular to the tangent (90 degrees!!!)
read this card (Judy / Sarah):)
you got this! don’t forget to use the packet along with these flashcards. if at first u don’t succeed try again. these flashcards follow along with the packet:). calm down. u got this:)
circle (definitions)
the locus of points of a fixed distance (radius) from a fixed point (center)
