Theorem Thursday 5 Flashcards
triangle sum theorem
the sum of the interior angles of a triangle is 180 degrees
exterior angle theorem
the sum of the exterior angle of a triangle is equal to the sum of the measures of the two non adjacent interior angles
corollary to the triangle sum theorem
the acute angles of a right triangle are complementary
properties of angle congruence
REFLEXIVE:for any triangle, triangle ABC is congruent to triangle ABC
SYMMETRIC: if triangle ABC is congruent to triangle DEF then triangle DEF is congruent to triangle ABC
TRANSITIVE: if triangle ABC is congruent to triangle DEF and triangle DEF is congruent to triangle JKL then triangle ABC is congruent to triangle JKL
Third Angles Theorem
if 2 angles of one triangle are congruent to 2 sides of another triangle then the third angles are also congruent
Side-Angle-Side Congruence Theorem
if 2 sides and the included angle of one triangle are congruent to 2 sides and the included angle of a second triangle then the two triangles are congruent
Base Angles Theorem
if 2 sides of a triangle are congruent then the angles opposite them are congruent
converse of the base angles theorem
if 2 angles of a triangle are congruent then the sides opposite them are congruent
corollary to the base angles theorem
if a triangle is equilateral then it is equiangular
corollary to the converse of the base angles theorem
if a triangle is equiangular then it is equilateral
Side-Side-Side Congruence Theorem SSS
If 3 sides of 1 triangle are congruent to 3 sides of a 2nd triangle then the 2 triangles are congruent
Hypotenuse-Leg Congruence Theorem
If the hypotenuse and a leg of a right triangle are congruent to the hypotenuse and a leg of a 2nd right triangle then the 2 triangles are congruent
Angle-Side-Angle Congruence Theorem ASA
if two angles and the included side of one triangle are congruent to two angles and the included side of a second triangle then the 2 triangles are congruent
Angle-Angle-Side Congruence Theorem
if two angles and a non included side of one triangle are congruent to two angles and the corresponding side of another triangle then the two triangles are congruent
