An act of disobedience to God’s commandments. A personal offense against God; a betrayal of love.
Sin
An Old Testament term meaning to fail to conform to God’s covenant of love.
Missing the Mark (Hamartia)
A New Testament term meaning failure to love God and others.
Hardness of Heart
Great sins capable of removing us from the sanctifying grace of God.
Mortal Sin
The three (3) conditions to classify as a Mortal Sin are:
- Grievous Matter
- Full Knowledge
- Full Consent
A little sin which slightly wound our souls.
Only turning away from God. Weaken our resistance to sin and induce to commit bigger sins.
Venial Sin
Habitual and strong dispositions to do evil.

The seven (7) deadly / capital sins include:
- Pride
- Avarice / Greed
- Envy
- Wrath
- Lust
- Gluttony
- Sloth
Belief that we are superior to our neighbor and God. Inordinate self-attachment.
Pride
To not share our earthly goods with the poor. Excessive desire for worldly goods.
Avarice / Greed
To be sad for a good thing which happened / belongs to our neighbor; sorrow at another’s good fortune.
Envy
The wild passion to do evil to God and to our neighbor; unrestrained passion of displeasure.
