Theology Flashcards
What is theology?
Simple doctrine of the Christian faith
Knowledge of God derived from sacred scripture
The truth objectively considered and subjectively received
Knowledge of God that animates the soul
What is the Greek root for theology?
Theos + logos (God + word/study)
What do all of us tend to be?
Unbalanced religiously
What is the aim of Christians?
The true and saving knowledge of God
What are the three aspects of theology?
The head (involves information, thinking)
The heart (emotional aspect)
The feet (represent action)
What is a head heavy person?
Knows a lot about the Bible but doesn’t show love for God well
What is a heart heavy person?
Processes through emotions, disconnect between heart and head
What is a feet heavy person?

Why is theology important?
All people are theologians (this is inherent in each of us because we desire to know about God, a god, etc.)
Christ and theology can’t be separated (can’t have Jesus without also knowing theology, Christ can’t save if the reality is sucked out of the name, good theology can help you to take hold of Christ)
Christian living and theology can’t be separated (faith is a part of life, belief is a part of practice)
What are some misconceptions about theology?
Theology is irrelevant and good theology is secondary to anything else (reality: good theology is always relevant)
Theology always leads to heresy, aka belief that’s opposed to orthodox teaching (reality: wrong theology leads to heresy, but not right theology)
Theology always creates division (reality: good theology sometimes creates division, but it’s not always a bad thing)
