Q

Verbal Inspiration

A

true in detail. Verbal inspiration means that the process of inspiration applies to the very words used in the biblical books. It does not mean that God mechanically dictated the words of the Bible, but that those words express the thoughts that God intended, and, being correctly interpreted, are free from errors of fact, doctrine, or judgment.

Q

Paul’s explanation of the place of Jews in redemptive history?

A
Romans 1 Gospel is to the Jews first, then Gentiles. Romans 9-11; Some branches were removed (Jews), then wild branches (Gentiles)were grafted into the tree. In the end,
the remnants (Jews who put faith in Christ) can be redrafted in.
Gal 3:7 "those of faith are now the sons of Abraham".
18
Q

2 aspects in which church is antithesis to the world:

A

Actual: light and darkness
Absolute: Eph 2:2 the world will follow the course of this world, follow the prince of the power of the air.

19
Q

3 aspects of God’s covenants w/ his people:

A

bilateral, unilateral, unconditional

The covenant is unilateral, in origin, but bilateral, in operation: God alone establishes the covenant but, after it is established, man becomes a party in it.

The promise in the covenant of works is conditional. The condition was that of implicit and perfect obedience.

The covenant of grace is indeed unilateral: it proceeds from God; he has designed and defined it. He maintains and implements it….But it is destined to become bilateral, to be consciously and voluntarily accepted and kept by humans in the power of God…thru Holy Spirit).

That conditional promise is a consequence of an absolute promise and it is thus commanded as the duty of man that it may be produced at the same time and at once in the elect as the gift of God (Turretin).
