Jacob Marley was Scrooges close friend, meaning if he is to listen to anyone he would listen to Jacob. Jacob was the beginning of a change in Scrooge.

This could be seen as Scrooges wake up alarm. Scrooge is frightened by the sound as this is the sound of change.
What message does Jacob Marley bring
Jacob Marley advises Scrooge he will be visited by three ghosts, which represents his past, present and future. This will show how Scrooges actions affect others and in the end how they will affect him as well.
Why does Marley visit Scrooge on Xmas eve
Jacob died on xmas eve seven years ago and this had an affect on Scrooge and could possibly add to why Scrooge is so mean at this time of year.
Tiny Tim is important to Scrooge why?
In the text the ghost says that Tiny Tim will die and scrooge replies,’‘noo’’ and the ghost echos what Scrooge said in the text stave 1 this could be the change that Scrooge is going through because of the ghost so far and at first he did not care about the poor and sick people but now he has empathy for tiny Tim.
