Q
‘Assure me that I yet many change these shadows you have shown me’ [Scrooge, to the ghost of Christmas yet to come]
A
- Scrooge believes that the ghost of Christmas yet to come, is showing him a bleak future, so Scrooge can change and be forgiven
- L= ‘shadows’- the noun, is in it’s plural form, suggesting how Scrooge cares about others, not just himself.
- and perhaps this could reflect how some critics argue that Scrooge doesn’t change selfish reasons. [and instead he asks for forgiveness genuinely]
- This is because, instead of worrying about changing his own shadow [in the future] and only saving himself from being a damned soul, Scrooge asks the ghost, how the shadows yet to come can be changed.
- For example, Tiny Tim’s death.
