What is the Christian belief about Human Rights and Social Justice?
- Christians believe that God created everyone equally
- God is the God of justice - we have a duty to be just and care for all
- ‘Love thy neighbour’ - Jesus taught Christians to care for one another
- ‘Faith without action is dead.” Christians have a duty to promote social justice
What is the Muslim belief about Human Rights and Social Justice?
- Muslims regard it as their religious and social responsibility to work for justice and just causes.
- Muslims believe that justice is a virtue.
- Giving money to the poor is a central part of Islam. (Zakah or alms-giving/ One of the 5 pillars)
- Muslims believe that we should do unto others what you would have them do to you

What are Christian views on Religious Freedom?
- Christianity teachings encourage tolerance and harmony.
- Christians believe it is a fundamental human right.
- Jesus tought religous freedom
- Religious freedom is encouraged as it is a part of God’s design
What are Muslim views on Religious Freedom?
- Muslims promote tolerance
- Some Muslim countries allow Christians and Jews to worship as they are ‘People of the Book’- they are accepted because they follow the revelations of God
- In some countered, like Pakistan, blasphemy laws exist to make it illegal for Muslim to critise the Qur’an or the Prophets
- Some Muslims believe Islam does not teach intolerance towards one another and people should be free to practise their faith.
What are non-religious views on religious freedom?
- In Britain today, the official state religion is Christianity (The Church of England)
- The government protects freedom of religious expression
- Nobody can be forced into a faith or to join the church

- Christians believe humans are important and special because we have been created in God’s image.
- Christians believe people are different but are equal in value and can have a relationship with God.
- Christians are encouraged to treat everyone as equals.
- Jesus says ‘Love thy neighbour as yourself.’

- Islam teaches that God created everyone and therefore are of equal value
- Muhammad said that ‘People are as equal as teeth of a comb.’
- People are only judged on how well they live their life in obedience to God
- Muslims believe people are different but are equal in value

- Christians oppose racism in all formss
- The bible says that “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.’
- Christians believe that God created everyone equally
- However the Dutch reformed Church did support the apartheid (black slavery, segregation and white supremacy) in south Africa. (For money and power)
What are Muslim views on racism?
- The Qur’an does not support racism.
- Muslims believe that people are judged on their actions not their race
- Islam is a brotherhood (unmah) - no distinction between people of different races

- Against God’s command to increase in number - can’t reproduce
- Sexual relationships between me are forbidden in the Bible
- Homosexul marriages are not allowed to take place within a Church

- No detail on homosexual relationships between women as there is no penetrative sex
- Some Christians believe that Homosexual relationships are not sinful (as long as sex is not involved)
- Some believe Bible teachings need to be updated to this modern society - therefore making it acceptable

- Homosexuality is forbidden
- In Most Muslim countries it is against the law
- It is against the natural law of God
- It is against God’s will
- Some believe that homosexuals will have to answer to God on judgement day
What are Christians views against sexism?
- Most have no problem with women being a part of the clergy.
- Women funded Jesus’ mission.

- Jesus chose men to be his disciples.
- Catholic and Orthodox Churches do not support women becoming priests.
