The best measure of a country’s health and safety
What are the key terms to development other than wealth

What does the term ‘development’ mean?
The use of resources and the application of technology to improve the standard of living in a country
What does the term ‘environmental impact assessment’ mean?
A document required by law in many countries, detailing all the impacts on the environment of a project above a certain size
What does the term ‘quality of life’ mean?
All the factors that affect a persons general well-being and happiness
What does the term ‘sustainable development’ mean?
Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the need of the future
What is the primary industry?
Extracts natural resources directly from sea or ground.. E.g farming, fishing, forestry and mining/quarrying
What is secondary industry?
Manufacturing industry. The processes of natural resources or making products from raw materials. E.g car assembly plants, processed food and furniture and steel production
What is the tertiary industry?
Service industry, economic activities involved providing a service, includes teaching and medical care
What is the quaternary industry?
Associated with research, e.g IT / computing and other business enterprises, e.g apple and sony
What does NIC mean?
Newly industrialised countries
What does LDC mean?
Least developed countries
