the nature and purpose of prayer in islam
submission to allah is a centeral feature of islam and is a reflection of the word muslim that means one that submits.
for muslims, communication with allah through prayer is at the same time an outward expression of submission. prayer is the second pillar of islam.

wird
sufi form of dhikr.
reflective chanting and focus on the names and glorification of allah or on aspects of quranic text.
this can be done through private prayer concentrating on quran recitation or through hymes and dances.
nafila
usually performed before or after the five obligatory prayers but can occur anytime.
according to fiqh teachings, nafila prayers are a ‘drop to the ocean’ in terms of importance/reward when compared to obligatory prayers.
du’a
personal form of private devotion.
can be done anytime, anywhere, without ritual ablution, and does not even have to be in arabic
purpose of prayer
salah is seen as an act of obedience and gratitude towards allah. it could also be acknowledging a total debendance on allah and confirming complete and absolute trust in him.
