Why was the first labour gov. a failure? (1924)
A
- Media comparisons to Soviet Russia & suggests their cabinet contained communist sympathisers
- Strained relations w/ the National Executive Committee of the Labour Party
- Couldn’t cause radical change as it would risk the support of the LIberals (minority gov)

What happened to the Labour campaign for the 1924 GE?
A
- ruined by the story published by the tory supporting, DAILY MAIL
- claimed a letter sent from a Russian revolutionist (Zinoviev) to the CPGB was discovered
- The letter encouraged a revolution & told British communists to get ready for overthrowing the gov
- Although it was fake, the Tories hoped it would discourage people from voting Labour
