What is internal recruitment ?
Workers within the business applying for new position.
What is external recruitment ?
Workers outside the business applying for a role.
What are the advantages of internal recruitment.
- Cheaper than external recruitment.
- Avoids induction training.
- Skills and attitude already known of employee.
What are the disadvantages of internal recruitment ?
- May be demotivating for other employees that did not get the role.
- Workers may not have the skills required that the business needs.
- Creates vacancies elsewhere in the business.
- No new ideas are introduced into the business.
What are the advantages of external recruitment ?
- External candidates likely already have skills for job role therefore capital and time is saved.
- Wider range of candidates may lead to more innovative ideas.
What are the disadvantages of external recruitment ?
- Can be expensive and time consuming finding external candidates.
- Can be demotivating for other employees that may have wanted that role.
What is recruitment ?
A process in which potential employees are identified to fill a job vacancy.
What is induction training ?
When new employees are trained in order to make sure they are familiar with the workplace and able to do their job.
What is on the job training ?
When an an employee is coached during the job.
What are the advantages to on the job training ?
- Learning can be put into practice immediately.
- Less expensive than off the job training.
What are the disadvantages of on the job training ?
- Reduces efficiency taking time away from employees jobs in order to train new worker.
- Poorly trained employees may make expensive mistakes.
What is off the job training ?
Involves work at home or courses at company training centres.
What are the advantages to off the job training ?
- Increased motivation as trainee feels valued by company as they have spent money on their training.
- Courses are created by people specifically to train employees.
- More chance to gather specialist skills.
What are the disadvantages to off the job training ?
- Costly as employees are taken away from production.
- Courses expensive.
- employee may fail to see link between workplace and training.
