thematic analysis Flashcards
1
Q
what is thematic analysis
A
- Thematic Analysis is a technique used to analyse qualitative data and summarise qualitative data to reduce it to something more meaningful
- Data is analysed by reading and re-reading the information
- Themes and categories are identified within the information by sorting/grouping
- Examples must be taken from the information as evidence
2
Q
strengths of thematic analysis
A
+ Reduces large amounts of data into manageable summary and conclusion.
+ Themes are derived from the data itself, rather than pre-selected themes being imposed, therefore valid.
3
Q
weaknesses of thematic analysis
A
Time consuming and requires skill
- Low validity due to researcher bias, they might have some themes in mind before they analyse, therefore themes don’t come from the data
