Reflexivity
Quant researches want objectivity but qual are sceptical of this as we all have diff viewpoints e.g. do i golf assumptions about this topic/would someone else interpret this diff
TA background
Braun and Clarke 2021: method for dev patterns across a qual data set to dev themes. Method not methodology as not joined to a framework (method is process, methodology is package of theory, method and design elements). TA should focus on what people say not how they say it e.g. what is it like to experience depression
Diff types of TA- Braun and clarke
Similarities to grounded theory, coding is active and reflexive. Spec coding inter rated reliability underpinned by realist/positivist. Codebook approaches e.g. template
Theory apporaches
Orientation to data can be inductive/deductive. Scale for Meaning can be semantic (explicit)or latent (implicit), qual framework can be experiential or critical (power structures and broader contexts) and theory can be realist (objective, real concepts) or relativist (reality shaped by culture - how do diff comms define success
Theoretical foundations
From philosophy: ontology is the what/ nature of reality., what is it what can you know. Realist is one objective reality, we don’t influence it but idealist say reality made up of our own ideas. Relativist say many relatives that are subjective. Epistemology is the how/theory of knowledge like how do you know that. Positivist say objective and be tested, relativist say socially constructed, intrrprestivist say humans unique and actions based on how ppl interet world
Other dinfinions
Positivism is one relait can measure objectively
Critical realism is one reality we only know about via interactions
Constructivism say multipel realities that need to be interpreted to get meaning
Pragmatism: whatever works
Conducting TA
dataset familiarisation (read, notes about broad ideas), data coding,(systematic, related to q, from latent to semantics) initial theme generation (shared patterns), theme refining/review and defining, writing up (results and discussion combined, not all data needed, make narrative)
Wrong assumption and summary/critiques
No one method called TA, not generic way of analysing qual data, not descriptive method and there are guidelines . Works on primary or secondary data, flexible, some say too simple, subjective, performed and explained poorly

Data grouped into themes: impact of diagnisis on identity as factor affectign care access, balance of power between professionals and service user, therapeutic relations and deveoping prof comm, supporting via meds, crisis planning
Conc was twitter useful where ppl can share info, develop understanding, get support
