Why was the Young Plan created?

A

The Ally occupation of the Rhineland was pushed for a more permanent plan after Dawes (especially by the French). Stresemann wanted to settle this issue with an international committee.

What were the terms of the Young Plan?

A
  • Continue reparations until 1988
  • Bill reduced from to £1.8 billion (Rather than £6.5 billion).
  • Annual payments increased
  • Foreign control over reparations was ceased
  • GB and France to withdraw all troops from the Rhineland by June 1930

What was the right wing reaction to the plan?

A

They were extremely against the plan and launched a nationwide campaign. This drew up a draft of law called ‘Freedom Law’.

What was Freedom law?

A

It required the government to repudiate the war guilt clause.
Declare immediate evacuation of the occupied areas.
Declare any minister of signing the Tov guilty of treason.
