What did Roosevelt want going into the Yalta conference?
-cooperation as the basis for lasting post-war settlement, founded on the American concept of democracy
-this was the crux of the issues between the USSR and USA as the USSR didn’t have the same wants for post war Europe-a democratic Eastern Europe and a global peace-keeping organisation that overlooks everything
What did Churchill want going into the Yalta conference?
-convinced that Stalin wanted to expand Soviet power in Europe
-the Soviet Union could threaten Britains imperial interests and so England needed a close alliance with the USA

What came of it?
-Germany and Austria were divided into 4 zones- including Berlin
-UN would be ratified
-declaration on liberated Europe-free elections in liberated countries
-USSR would join pacific war after Germany surrendered
-ussr gains land from Poland:Poland expands north and west into Germany
What happened to Poland?
-real government (Warsaw) in exile in London
-Lublin Government (provisional government) set up and run by the communists
-the west wanted the Warsaw Government back in power
