What is a global superpower?
An extremely powerful nation, especially one capable of influencing international events and the acts and policies of less powerful nations.
What are the seven dimensions of power?
Geography, Population, Resources, Economy, Military, Diplomacy and Identity.
Who are the BRIC countries?
Brazil, Russia, India and China.
What makes Brazil a contender for the superpower status?
Brazil is a soft power and has immense resources.
What makes Russia a contender for the superpower status?
Russia is a geopolitical manipulator.
What makes India a contender for the superpower status?
India has the second largest population in the world.
What makes China a contender for the superpower status?
China is a manufacturing giant and the largest population in the world.
What is hard power?
Huge well-funded military(the US spends the same as the next eight countries combined).
Regularly exercised economic sanctions against other countries(Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan and Syria).
What is a soft power?
American dream-ties in with capitalism=the idea that anyone can get rich with hard work.
The USA is often used as a symbol of freedom regardless of actual reality.
Economic powerhouse-although China’s economy faster the US is still the biggest.

What is smart power?
Dominant in international organisations-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, member of the NATO, G8 and G20.
Contribute massively to the budget of the United Nations-22% of the total and 27%of the peacekeeping budget come from the USA.
