Work:any activity that requires effort
What is employment?
Employment: work carried out in return for payment
What is volunteerism?
Volunteerism: when a person gives their time and energy to help others

Unemployment: people who are available for work but cannot find work

Industrial relations: the relationship between employers and employees
What is a trade union?
Trade union: an organisation of workers set up to protect members rights and interests

Shop steward: the worker elected by the union to represent them in the workplace

What is an unofficial strike ?
Workers go on strike without agreement from ICTU or trade union
What is an sympathetic strike?
Workers who are happy go on strike to support workers who are not happy
What is a lightning strike?
Sudden strike, workers walk out of work due to an unexpected happening

Workers come to work as normal but operate on a “go slow”
