The working memory model Flashcards
1
Q
Who introduced the WMM?
A
hitch and Baddley
2
Q
what is the working memory model?
A
An explanation of the memory used when working on a task and each store is qualitatively different.
3
Q
what are the 4 different stores of the WMM?
A
central executive, visual spatial sketchpad, phonological loop, episodic buffer
4
Q
describe the central executive: 3 points
A
- function - direct attention to particular tasks = coordinating the activity of the STM
- delegates info to the slave system
- retrieves info from the LTM
5
Q
describe the visual spatial sketchpad: 3 points
A
- used when planning a spatial task
- deals with visual and spatial info
- Logic - divided it into two - visual cache and inner scribe
6
Q
describe the phonological loop: 2 points
A
- deals with auditory information
- uses the phonological code and inner ear to store recently heard words
7
Q
describe the episodic buffer: 2 points
A
- integrates information from the CE, PL and visual spatial sketchpad
- maintains a sense of time sequencing
8
Q
what do all of the stores have?
A
a limited capacity
